WHAT IS EMR & EHR?
FHIR - HL7 Development
Health Level Seven International’s (HL7) was formed as a non-profit to help define data portability within Healthcare. FHIR is a modern HL7 standard for healthcare systems,builds on previous data format standards from HL7, like HL7 version 2.x and HL7 version 3.x. The design of FHIR is based on RESTful web services. This is in contrast to the majority of IHE profiles which are based on SOAP web services. With RESTful web services, the basic HTTP operations are incorporated including making development simpler and more structured.
FHIR provides an alternative to document-centric approaches by directly exposing discrete data elements as services. It exposes each element and allows operations such as GET, POST, PUT, DELETE for each element. This allows for a coherent implementation with the current state of the art of web development.
